The american revolution today: a communal pen workshop

Additional Information

The Marlboro County Museum invites community members to a thought‑provoking workshop examining the legacy and modern meaning of the American Revolution. The event will take place on Monday, March 30, at 6 p.m. at the Marlboro County Museum in Bennettsville.

As the nation marks the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, this workshop asks a timely and compelling question: What does the revolution mean today? Participants will explore how the ideals, conflicts, and aspirations of the founding era continue to shape American identity, politics, and culture. The conversation will also consider how the founding fathers might view the country’s evolution over the past two and a half centuries. Participants will be given a few short-writing prompts to write for three to five minutes, and their stories can be shared on the Communal Pen website as well as with the research team.

The workshop is presented in collaboration with ongoing research by Harper Davidson and Dr. Gina Bennett of Coker College, whose work investigates contemporary attitudes toward the American Revolution. Their insights will help frame an open, engaging discussion that encourages attendees to reflect on their own connections to this pivotal moment in history. The storysharing workshop is held in collaboration with the statewide Communal Pen community writing initiative, a partnership between The Athenaeum Press at Coastal Carolina University and the South Carolina Arts Commission.

This workshop is free, but space is limited. Reserve your free seat for the workshop on Eventbrite. All are welcome to join the conversation and contribute their perspectives. Light refreshments will be served.
