HISTORIC PLACES – Give us your best shot of a HISTORIC PLACE in Marlboro County: A structure or even a landscape that has historical significance to our county. Try to find an interesting angle or perspective for your picture, and don’t forget to explain the significance of the location in your submission.
MARLBORO COUNTY LIFE – Some images just tell a story. Let yours tell the story of what it means to live in, or be from, Marlboro County. Maybe it’s a Friday night football game; maybe a favorite fishing hole or a sea of cotton in a field. If it speaks to you, share it.
NATURE – Beautiful landscapes, or close-up studies of favorite flora or fauna. This is by far our most popular category. Because we get so many entries in this category, make sure yours stands out.
SPOTLIGHT – This category is new! We select the subject, and you give us your best, most creative take on it. For our first Spotlight, we choose the Gulf sign at Liberty and Market Streets, behind the Courthouse. Let’s see what you can do, and how your vision compares to that of other photographers.
Entries will be accepted through end of business on Friday, November 19.
Participants do NOT have to live in Marlboro County, but photos MUST be taken in Marlboro County.
Participants under the age of 18 must have the consent of a parent/guardian to participate.
By submitting an entry, the contestant (or parent/guardian if contestant is under 18 years of age) agrees to the rules of the contest and asserts that the image(s) submitted are original works.
There are FOUR categories: Historic Places, Marlboro County Life, Nature, and Spotlight.
A single participant may submit entries in as many CATEGORIES as desired, but there is a limit of ONE entry PER category for each participant.
Photos must be submitted digitally (email lmcqueen@marlborocounty.sc.gov).
Submissions should be in .jpeg format and as high resolution as possible.
Photos may NOT be digitally or otherwise enhanced or altered other than minor adjustments/cropping. Heavily edited photographs will be disqualified.
Each entry should include the photographer’s name (and name of parent/guardian if contestant is a minor), contact information (address and phone number), category of the submission, and information about the photo (where it was taken, what it depicts, when it was taken, etc.)
The museum reserves the right to move an entry into a different category if it is deemed more appropriate.
If a submission fails to comply with any of the contest rules, it will be disqualified.
The museum will have the royalty-free right to publicly display, reproduce and create derivative works of all entries in advertising, promotion and commercial products.
Entries will be judged on originality, technical excellence, overall impact and artistic merit.
